New Team Sport in Alpine – TEAM GYMNASTICS at Gymtrix!

Team 2015 Gymtrix Gymnastics (1)

Did you know there is a new team sport in Alpine?

It’s “Team Gymnastics” and this year there are two teams, level 2 and level 5 based at Gymtrix on Tavern Road. Both teams did very well in their first competition on January 17th at the Disneyland Hotel. The level 2 team – “Fusion” – received the highest score in their level, which qualified them for participation in national competition in June. The level 5 team – “Genesis” – will have several other opportunities to qualify, and the both the coach and judges are confident that they will be competing in the nationals as well. Team Gymnastics differs from the individual sport as it combines dance and gymnastics in synchronized floor routines and tumbling passes. The teams have a minimum of six people and the routines are set to music. Team composition is based on skill level, rather than age.

Team 2015 Gymtrix Gymnastics (7) Team 2015 Gymtrix Gymnastics (5)

The team coach, Kristi Gorney, works hard to foster team spirit and collaboration by engaging both teams in activities outside the gym, including a team retreat to Julian coming up in March. After the competition in January the teams were able to spend the weekend enjoying the Disneyland Parks. The teams have showcased their talents at several local events including the Alpine “Parade of Lights” and “Christmas in the Village” parade in La Mesa. They also performed a “zombie dance” routine in full makeup and costumes at the Alpine Elementary School’s Halloween Festival.

Would you like to know more or see the gymnasts in action? You can check out both teams right here in Alpine at the upcoming Gymtrix Olympics, on April 25th. You will also see more of the gymnasts around town as efforts at fundraising for the national competition are ramped up. A carwash and tumble-a-thon are currently planned for the near future to help raise the monies to send both teams to Hollywood at the end of June for national competition, being held at Universal Studios. Alpine now has two new teams to cheer for, and come June we may have some new local national champions! Visit www.gymtrixinc.com
